✦ Synopsis
Phosphorescence
decay has been measured at liquid helium tcmpcrntures for 2,2'dipyridyl, l,lO-phennntllroline and their tris and bis compleses with rhodium(lI1).
The decay for the free lignnds and bis complcscs is exponential with lifetimes shorter than those measured at 77°K. The decay for the tn'o tris compleses is non-exponential and can be analyzed to give two lifetimes. These low temperature lifetimes can be corrclnted with the respectiw single T (77°K) and with the respccti*:e phosphorescence quantum yic!ds. These data for the tris complexes imply that the spin-lattice relaxation times are of magnitude t lo-' set competitive with T at these tempcraturcs.
