✦ Synopsis

Monte Carlo simulation of the backscattering enhancement of electromagnetic wa¨es from a ¨egetation canopy due to the ¨olume᎐surface interaction is presented in this paper. A method of coherently adding up the scattered fields from scatterers is de¨eloped to illustrate the coherent scattering effect of backscattering enhancement. Results are compared with those of independent scattering, and they re¨eal that the angular width of the backscattering enhancement from the ¨olume᎐surface interaction is appreciable for both HH and VV polarized wa¨es. The ¨ariation of the angular width with the canopy height and the incident wa¨e frequency is also presented.
