Abstract
This paper presents the theoretical and simulation investigations of an E‐shaped patch antenna applicable in modern mobile communications. It shows marked improvement in the bandwidth when compared with rectangular patch antenna with acceptable radiation pattern. Further, the bandwidth is optimized with respect to notch length, width, and position. Typically, the antenna shows an enhanced impedance bandwidth of 32.5%. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ## Abstract An electronically tunable broadband E‐shaped patch antenna (ESPA) is proposed and analyzed using equivalent circuit concept. The effects of notch parameters such as notch length, width, and position are analyzed to select the optimum values for broadband operation of ESPA. Under the opt
The proposed antenna is found to ha¨e a much broader impedance bandwidth as compared to the con¨entional U-slot antenna. An impedance bandwidth of about 33.8% is achie¨ed for the proposed E-plane antenna. Through the use of a washer on the proposed antenna, the probe inductor is compensated, and an
The L-shaped probe is shown to be an excellent feed for the thick circular patch antenna. The substrate used is a foam layer of thickness about 10% of the operating wa¨elength. An impedance bandwidth of 24% and an a¨erage gain of 7.5 dBi are achie¨ed.
A new design of a patch antenna with a three-dimensional in¨erted V-shaped patch is proposed and experimentally studied. The three-dimensional in¨erted V-shaped patch is formed by bending a con-¨entional planar rectangular patch at its centerline into an in¨erted V-shape, and it is then supported by
