We present a theoretical analysis and experimental results for the most suitable configuration of pump power in a two-stage erbium-dopedfiber amplifier. The amplifiers are arranged in a copropagating pump scheme and use large signal input and modest pump power. Experimental results are in good agree

โฆ Synopsis
We present a reliable variable step sampling process which is used, together with the traveling wave model, to accurately forecast the behavior of Q-switched erbium-doped fiber lasers working with short rise time modulators. The proposed model takes into account the contribution of the spontaneous emission of photons of noise. The strong effects of the length of the laser cavity on the buildup of the pulses and on the maximum available peak power are pointed out and analyzed. An optimum laser cavity with realistic characteristics is described.
