OBJECTIVE: Present new research findings that will lead to the development of test methods and design practices for assuring the arrest of fast propagating fractures. The following topics are of special interest:
-Theoretical analyses of rapidly propagating cracks -Analyses of the crack arrest process and criteria for fracture arrest -Experimental observations of fast running cracks, their arrest and attending crack tip stress fields and microstructural processes -Test methods and measurements of relevant material properties -Applications of crack arrest methodology for engineering structures.
