β¦ Synopsis
Thank you . . . a small, two word sentiment that seems so large when conveying the pleasantry of gratitude. These are the words I openly shared with the Association for Spiritual, Ethical, and Religious Values in Counseling (ASERVIC) committee who so generously placed faith in me as the fifth editor selected to shepherd Counseling and Values. The privilege I have earned is to be shared with my predecessors as well, predecessors who read like a "who's who" of counseling. Donald Biggs, Gerald Pine, Nicholas Colangelo, and Harry Daniels make up the luminary cast who have helped facilitate the evolution of our journal. But, I suspect most of you already know that. What some of our new readers may not know is that the roots of the journal go back to 1956 when it was first introduced as The Catholic Counselor and Reader. Our journal was one of the first to be aligned with the American Counseling Association's (ACA) predecessor, the then fledgling American Personnel and Guidance Association. We have come a long way since that time.
It is now my turn to carry the torch, allowing its light to cast its own shadows over the landscape we now define as professional counseling. I trust that I may be ready for the task at hand. I have been on the editorial board for the journal since 1989, associate editor since 1992, and now ... selected for this responsibility. I am at once deeply honored and pleased, and will at all times solicit your patience as I take those first awkward steps toward becoming the person in which you have placed your faith.
I have many to thank for this opportunity. Michael Robinson, Richard Hazler, Tom Hipple, and John Geisler are but a few of the many who have exercised great patience in helping me learn my craft. I too am thankful for the editorial board members from whom I have learned much.
