✦ Synopsis

We developed an inexpensive continuous-type ultrasonic nebulizer for atomic spectrometry based on a domestic humidifier. With this nebulizer, the aerosol introduction rate is about 1.0 mL/min, much greater than that of pneumatic nebulizer. The long-term stability was also satisfactory because both the solution level and the coupling water temperature were held constant. The pumps controlled by a computer allow the nebulizer to work continuously. The results show that both the analytical performance and the cost were satisfactory.

An interface for capillary electrophoresis (CE) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) is developed with a commercial ultrasonic nebulizer. The CE ground path was provided through a coaxial liquid electrolyte flow surrounding the CE capillary. To accommodate this dual capillary ar
