✦ Synopsis

Abstract

Certain polyelectrolyte complexes have been developed which appear to be nonirritating to body tissues and do not initiate thrombus when in contact with the bloodstream. In vivo test results with animals are discussed salong with a description of the physical and chemical properties of the material. Methods of improving the mechanical properties of the complexes have been developed and illustrations of several simple biomedical devices are shown.

## Abstract The characterization of a polyelectrolyte complex material comprised of two biopolymers, a chitosan upper layer and a gellan gum under layer, is reported. It is shown that the upper layer of chitosan with incorporated levofloxacin displays an antibacterial activity, while the under laye
