The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAF'TA) introduced significant new environmental provisions that reach further than those in any other previous trade agreements. They are included throughout the NAFTA text and the separate side agreement on the environment. Given this unique position, the NAF'TA experience could potentially serve as a model for other regional trade agreements around the world. The Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum is an emerging trade and investment regime encompassing a diverse group of economies in terms of economic and social development.
