β¦ Synopsis
Solutions of gossypol in buffered methanol were studied by polarography, triangular-wave voltammetry, controlled-potential coulometry, and ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry. The two aldehydic functional groups on gossypol are irreversibly electrochemically reduced to the alcohols. A mechanism is proposed for the reduction.

## Abstract Schiff bases of gossypol with benzylamine, methylamine, 4βaminoacetophenone and 4βfluoroaniline have been synthesized and characterized by NMR spectroscopy. All the Schiff bases of gossypol are in the enamine form according to ^3^__J__(HC,NH) and ^1^__J__(N,H) coupling constants. The sp
