β¦ Synopsis
Abstrrti-The photocatalytic reactions of quinones dissolved in methanol were investigated on an illuminated n-type semiconducting rutile catalyst by employing electrochemical measurements based cm the local cell process. The overall reaction determined by the chemical analysis was CH,OH + 0 O--,HCHO + HO /\ -Q OH, -R
where R denotes a substituent. The higher reaction rate was obtained for the system of quinone with a more noble redox potential. It was found that quinonff were reduced by electrons in the conduction band of rntile and lhat methanol was oxidized through the "current doubling" process.
