Abstract
An efficient synthesis of R~3~Si(CH~2~)~3~CH[C(O)Me]~2~ 3 [R = Me, ORβ²] is described. The reaction of R~3~Si(CH~2~)~3~Cl 2 with the sodium of potassium salt of acetylacetonate (1) and 0.8β2 equivalents of NaI of KI in DMF, DMSO or NMP as a solvent gives the Cβ and Oβalkylation products R~3~Si(CH~2~)~3~CH[C(O)Me]~2~ 3 and R~3~Si(CH~2~)~3~OC(Me)ο£ΎCHο£ΏC(O)Me 4 in a 3:1 ratio and a 60β70% total yield. For R~3~SiCH~2~CH[C(O)Me]~2~ selectivity and yields are lower.
