โœฆ Synopsis

An efficient numerical method is developed for the one-dimensional open channel flow equations. The scheme is a modification of one presented recently, but with an improvement in the efficiency made through the use of the arithmetic mean as an average of flow variables across the interface between adjacent states. Numerical results are shown for two problems, and an indication of the efficiency gained is given.

An absorbing boundary condition is formulated and applied to the one-dimensional open channel flow equations in conjunction with an explicit MacCormack scheme. The Saint Venant equations for modelling flow in open channels are solved in this paper, using a variety of total variation diminishing (TVD) schemes. The performance of second-and third-order-accurate TVD schemes is investigated for the computation of free-surface flows, in predicting dam-breaks an

In modeling flow in open channels, the traditional finite difference/finite volume schemes become inefficient and warrant special numerical treatment in the presence of shocks and discontinuities. The numerical oscillations that arise by making use of a second-and higher-order schemes require some a

Cal Giddings was an exceptional man, somewhat retiring in nature and yet able to inspire in others such excitement and enthusiasm. In the case of science, I think it might have had something to do with the precise logic with which he would approach a task and the clarity of his writing where this lo
