โœฆ Synopsis

Cal Giddings was an exceptional man, somewhat retiring in nature and yet able to inspire in others such excitement and enthusiasm. In the case of science, I think it might have had something to do with the precise logic with which he would approach a task and the clarity of his writing where this logic is explained step by step. But for other pursuits like mountain biking it was simply the shear joy of achievement that was so contagious. There would be no breaking down of a problem into simple steps, the most difficult route would be the one for Cal.

I feel privileged to have known him, and worked with him, and he will be a life-long influence. His concern for the environment and the fate of the earth is shared by many of us. He has left us too soon and the world is a poorer place.

A new general expression of the ratio of the void time to analyte retention time, which one calls the time-based retention ratio R , is given for t curved separation channels. It differs from the classical definition of the retention ratio, based on a velocity ratio, which does not account for the f
