a-Sulfonyl hydroxamic acid derivatives are biologically important molecules. An efficient protocol has been developed to make these molecules via a direct sulfonylation of enolates. Several piperidine containing a-sulfonyl hydroxamic acid compounds have been prepared by this procedure.
