โฆ Synopsis
Scanning electron microscopy (SEM-JEOL JSM 5300) was performed on the fracture surfaces of the mechanically failed specimens to study the interfaces between optical fibers and host materials. The fracture surfaces were vaporcoated with a thin layer of gold to enhance the image.

## Abstract Although there exists a good understanding of dislocation glide mechanisms during fatigue of titanium aluminides,1 fatigue life prediction remains a crucial issue because of the low amount of macroscopic plastic strain and the existence of microstructural inhomogeneities. The concept pr
## Abstract This paper gives an account of research which has been carried out on electronโbeam welded specimens made of highโNb ฮณ/ฮฑ~2~โtitanium aluminides (in short: TiAl). The high niobium content of this alloy (5โ8โ%) has a positive effect on the strength and the creep resistance and also on t
## Abstract In the present study, the applicability of thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) on ฮณโTiAl alloys was investigated. Two alloys with the chemical compositions of Tiโ45Alโ8Nbโ0.2Bโ0.15C and Tiโ45Alโ1Crโ6Nbโ0.4Wโ0.2Bโ0.5Cโ0.2Si were used. Before TBC deposition, the specimens were preโoxidised in
