✦ Synopsis
Alkaline earth metal perchlorates and thiocyanates react with cyclic polyethers to yield crystalline solids. The products are found to be influenced by cation radius and charge, and also by the reaction solvent and anion. Competition reactions between potassium and calcium are shown to be solvent dependent.
The perchlorate and thiocyanate anions are shown by infrared spectroscopy to take part in the metal coordination in several complexes.
