✦ Synopsis

Polyacrylamide gels prepared by polymerization in the presence of poty(lvinyluracil) or poly(9-vinyladenine) can be used for the selective electrophoretic separation of polynucleotides. With gels containing poly( l-vinylu~cil) selectivity is determined by base-pairing; with gels containing poiy(9-vinyladenine) both base-pairing and the weaker co-stacking interactions are involved. 422
