and cellular effects of initiating carcinogens and tumor promoters is presented. According to this model, initiating carcinogens induce stable alterations in the cellular genome but these are not manifested until tumor promoters modulate programs of gene expression and induce the clonal outgrowth of the initiated cell.

## Abstract Hyaluronan (HA) has lubricating and buffering functions in joints. Mechanical load is a regulatory factor of HA metabolism in joints, and HA synthesis by synovial membrane cells is modulated by mechanical load. However, the effects of mechanical load on HA catabolism by hyaluronidase (H

## Abstract Hyaluronan (or hyaluronic acid, HA) is an essential component of extracellular matrices. It interacts with other macromolecules and plays a predominant role in tissue morphogenesis, cell migration, differentiation, and adhesion. The cell signaling functions of HA are mediated through th

## Abstract Evidence is presented which suggests the existence of at least two growth control points in cultured mammalian cells. These controls are in β€œparallel” rather than in β€œseries.” It is suggested that in normal and some transformed cells the controls are coupled while in SV40 transformed ce
