β¦ Synopsis
A derivatization scheme employing (10-) methyl-9-acridinium carboxylate as a chemiluminescent label for sensitive detection of environmentally important chlorophenols using HPLC was investigated. A two-step derivatization scheme was used to generate the chemiluminescent derivatives. Following separation under reversed phase conditions, the chemiluminescent reaction was performed by base-catalyzed postcolumn oxidation. Unlike conventional chemiluminescence measurements, the quantum efficiency was analyte dependent. Comparable sensitivity for the array of chlorophenols studied was achieved by manipulation of reaction parameters affecting the chemiluminescence response of the derivatives. Detection limits in the femto- to attomole range were obtained. o1994 Academic Press. Inc.
