โœฆ Synopsis

Values of 4 have also come from chemical detection work [ 1 0,l 1 ] , using the molecules NOCl and ICI in reaction with I-For tz-C,F,I, values approaching unity were obtained at both ends of the wavelength range 260-3 15 nm, with a minimum of 9 = 0.78 at 285 nm-Measurements of gain characteristics in alkyl iodide photodissociation lasers, which lase on the F(4) + F(3) line of the I(*Pt$ f I(*P& transition, have indicated [12] output powers in the order JZ-C,F,I > CF,I > C *F,I > CH,I .

However, as we have already argued [4]. the output power from such lasers is probably more dependent on the position and width of the u* + n absorption band and on the rate of deactivation of I('P,p) in the system than on the detalled values of 4 provided, of course, that these are large enough to enable la-sing to take place efficiently. This is supported by relative 4

The rate constants of the reactions of ethoxy (C 2 H 5 O), i-propoxy (i-C 3 H 7 O) and npropoxy (n-C 3 H 7 O) radicals with O 2 and NO have been measured as a function of temperature. Radicals have been generated by laser photolysis from the appropriate alkyl nitrite and have been detected by laser-
