✦ Synopsis

Abstract

This paper presents the design of a wideband printed monopole antenna with inductance loading. This design introduces a loading inductor aimed at decreasing the lowest frequency of the impedance bandwidth, while adjusting the ratio of the patch's length to width in order to increase the highest frequency. The experimental results all demonstrate that the two techniques play a key role in widening the antenna's bandwidth so that it can cover various wireless communication systems. The design's bandwidth covers the GSM (880–960 MHz), DCS (1710–1880 MHz), PCS (1850–1990 MHz), UMTS (1920–2170 MHz), and ISM (2400–2485 MHz) bands. The experimental results also indicate that the radiation patterns for all operating bands are omnidirectional on the azimuthal plane. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
