✦ Synopsis

An effective Hamiltonian is developed for the d-d excitation model in the atomic limit. In a weak coupling approximation it is shown that the interaction between itinerant oxygen p holes mediated by virtual d -d excitations of Cu ++ may lead to superconductivity of purely electronic origin.

Ground vibrations induced by railway traffic at grade and in tunnels are often studied by means of twoand-half dimensional (2.5D) models that are based on a Fourier transform of the coordinate in the longitudinal direction of the track. Within the framework of the angular overlap model the matrix elements of the linear Jahn-TeUer operator may easily be calculated in the weak-field basis in terms of simple operator equivalents. The method is applied to the calculation of the (MjI ~ V/~QIM'j> matrix elements for the ILS.ffvIj) ground
