A simple preparation of cyclic vinyl boronates derived from the vinyl triflates of N-protected tetrahydropyridines is described. Suzuki coupling of the boronates with aryl bromides, iodides and triflates proceeds in good yield to give 4-aryl tetrahydropyridines.
