โœฆ Synopsis

Time-resolved EPR spectra have been observed for the lowest triplet states of biphenyl, 4-phenylpyridine (PPY) and Cphenylpyridinium (PPYH+ ) in ethanol at 77 K The sublevel preferentially populated by intersystem crossing is T, (top sublevel) in biphenyl. Following the protonation of PPY, (P,,) /( P,) changes from 9 in PPY to 1 in PPYH+ (Pi are relative populating rates; they and z axes are parallel to the in-plane short and long axes, respectively).

Time-resolved ESR spectra have been observed for the lowest triplet states of 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy) and singly protonated bpy (bpyH+) in ethanol at 77 K. Transient ESR spectra have been observed for the lowest triplet states of naphthalene, quinoline (QN), quinolinium (QNH+), isoquinoline (iso-QN) and isoquinolinium (iso-QNH+) in ethanol at 77 K using a time-resolved ESR technique. The triplet states of C6,, and C,,, (fullerenes) in solid phase at 3 and 77 K are detected by the time-resolved EPR technique. The observed time-resolved EPR spectra and the time profiles of the transient signals indicate that the geometries of Cw and CT0 are distorted from the soccerball geometry (

Time-resolved resonance Raman spectra are obtained for the lowest excited triplet state T, and the radical cation of 5-dibenzosuberenol (DBCH-5-01). It is concluded, based on the large downshifts of the Raman bands assignable to the C=C stretch of the central ring, that the C=C bond is weakened mark

Time-resolved ESR spectra have been observed for the lowest excited triplet states of 1-nitronaphthalene and 1,4dinitronaphthalene in EPA at 77 K. The results show that the sublevel preferentially populated by intersystem crossing is T,, in both molecules studied (y is close to the in-plane long axi
