✦ Synopsis

Presented is an efficient numerical method for computing thermal rate constants for quantum systems with few, localized degrees of freedom. The starting point is the work of Miller, Schwartz and Tromp in which the rate constant is expressed in terms of an equilibrium flux-flux correlation function. The correlation function can be calculated very efficiently by using a combination of discrete momentum and coordinate representation. This saves time by replacing the matrix multiplications normally involved in evaluating propagators with fast Fourier transforms. * Related formulations can be found in ref. [ 21.

## Abstract In the study of chemical kinetics, many integrated reaction rate equations have the form In [__f__(A) + __a__] = __bt__ + __c__, where __a__, __b__, and __c__ are constants and __f__(A) is some function of the concentration of a reactant (or product) which can be calculated from the dat

An analytic theory is presented for the thermally activated rate constant in systems which exhibit spatially dependent and timecorrelated friction along the reaction coordinate motion. The theory is valid over the entire range of damping strengths, including in the region of the Rramers turnover. It
