β¦ Synopsis
In a previous article (I) an interactive system for displaying scaled brain maps to the neurosurgeon during stereotaxic surgery for Parkinson's disease was described. This technique has been augmented recently to allow the recording and display of the type and loci of physiological responses obtained during recording and stimulatory exploration of the thalamus from many patients in a disk-based file. A data base from over 130 cases can be searched for many kinds of responses. Restrictions in the selection of brain size, disease, laterality, type of response: etc., can be imposed to limit the responses displayed. The system can draw any map of the thalamus, alone or with any of the over 2000 responses at present on file in less than 10 sec.

The somatotopical organization of the human somatosensory cortex was analyzed with echo-planar imaging at 1.5 Tesla, utilizing deoxyhemoglobin as an endogenous contrast medium. Scrubbing stimulation at a frequency of 3 Hz was applied to one of three cutaneous areas: toes, fingertips, and tongue tip.
Closure of the ductus venosus. The ductus venosus, which carries portal and umbilical blood to the inferior vena cava, is functionally closed within hours of birth. Permanent closure begins a few days after birth and is complete by 18-20 days of age . The duct becomes the ligamentum venosum in a fis
