## Abstract The transient characteristics of an erbium‐doped fiber (EDF) laser, which can switch between wavelengths, are investigated. The laser has a set of coupled linear cavities. The slow gain dynamics of EDFs and the cross‐gain saturation in the coupled cavities give rise to delayed switching

✦ Synopsis
Abstract
A simple and switchable triple‐wavelength erbium‐doped fiber laser (EDFL) with a linear laser cavity is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. In the experiment, by changing the state of polarization (SOP) inside the laser cavity through a polarization controller (PC), stable single, dual, and triple wavelengths under room temperature were obtained. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A linear cavity short wavelength band Brillouin/Erbium fiber laser (S-band BEFL) is demonstrated. The architecture utilizes a bi-directional oscillation provided by two optical circulators at both ends of the laser cavity. Therefore, the number of channel is higher in this BEFL compared with the rin
A linear cavity Brillouin fiber laser (BFL) is proposed and demonstrated for multi-wavelength operation. The BFL uses a single mode fiber (SMF) as a non-linear gain medium and an optical circulator to generate a linear cavity resonator. Two couplers are used to inject the Brillouin Pump (BP) and tap
