✦ Synopsis

Infrared andXaman isotropic bandwidths are reported for the symmetric methyl stretching vibration in a series of corn-pounds in which the length of the Cs symmetry axis gradually increases_ The magnitude of the 2 = 1 orientational width is shown to depend on the moment of inertia for small molecules in the series_ For the kngest molecules a viscosity drag model seems to account better for the observed width.
