Butyrate and longer-chain fatty acids are quantitatively extracted from an incubation medium and separated from ["Clacetate with a recovery of 93.6 f 2.3 and 96.7 \* 2.4% for butyrate and palmitate, respectively. Butyrate and longer-chain fatty acids are methylated and prepared for radio gas chromat

✦ Synopsis
Abstract
(l‐^14^C)‐dodecanal was synthesized from (l‐^14^C)‐dodecanoic acid. The two‐step synthesis beginning with 0.9 mg of the acid resulted in an overall yield of 42 % after purification. The final product was separated from the starting material and side products by silicic acid column chromatography. Purity was verified by thin layer chromatography and stimulation of light emission catalysed by bacterial luciferase.
