Abstract

The Vandercook hand proofing press, the PATRA printing shell and a reflectometer have been used together with an ink of fixed composition to measure the ink absorbency of any paper as a function of the surface reflectance of a film of ink printed on the paper. The absorbency characteristics of the paper are referred to the constants: initial penctration, rate of absorption, and residual reflectance.
