✦ Synopsis

Present J testing procedures, which lay emphasis on the detection and characterization of fibrous tearing, are too complex for routine repetitive testing. A relatively simple method is presented for determination of J, (onset of cleavage instability). The chief advantage of the method is that it does not require an accurate measurement of fatigue crack length.
