โฆ Synopsis
In the present paper, a quasi-analytic method for solving structural optimization problems has been developed by co-ordinated use of mathematical transformations, high-quality approximation and a twolevel approximation strategy. The method which has the advantages of both generality in applications and high eciency in computations is especially of beneยฎt to large practical design problems. Several typical examples of dierent sorts have been optimized to test its power.

The paper proposes a two-level decomposition method for shape optimization of structures. The optimization problem is divided into two subproblems on the basis of the different effects on structural behaviour of different kinds of design variables. A minimum mass subproblem is solved to determine th
An SQP-based reduced Hessian method for simultaneous analysis and design (SAND) of non-linearly behaving structures is presented and compared with conventional nested analysis and design (NAND) methods. It is shown that it is possible to decompose the SAND formulation to take advantage of the partic
