β¦ Synopsis
Recent investigations in this laboratory have shown that norepinephrine (NE) is essential in ACTH-induced mobilization of free fatty acids (FFA) from adipose tissue (1). To carry out these studies it became necessary to determine the concentration of norepinephrine in the adipose tissue of normal and drug-treated animals. The method described by Shore and Olin (2) is suitable for the assay of the relatively large amounts of NE in brain and heart but is not sensitive enough to estimate the low concentrations of the amine in adipose tissue. The present paper describes the identification of NE in adipose tissue. It also describes a modification of the method of Shore and Olin which allows the assay of NE in large amounts of adipose tissue.
