An analytical procedure for the simultaneous determination of pethidine and norpethidine in plasma by selected ion monitoring is described. The method has a capacity of 15-20 analyses per hour and can be used to determine pethidine and norpethidine down to 25 ng ml-' and 5 ng ml-', respectively. The

β¦ Synopsis
approximate movement of the plunger during packing is 40 mm. The diagram (Figure 1) is to scale, except for the O-rings, valves and tube fittings. Packing with this system wassatisfactoryexcept when we failed to add enough packing material to fill the column completely, or when the stirring bar failed because of insufficient magnetic coupling. The latter problem was solved by replacing the origingal flat-plate magnetic stirrer with an Alnico U-magnet. The volume occupied by the stirring bar does require that excess packing material be used, a disadvantage with expensive materials. This system would appear to be particularly suitable for the upward slurry packing of larger columns, since the rate of extrusion of the slurry would not be limited by the speed of a pump. It appears that scale-up is possible, as long as pressure ratings are observed for all compooents. MS

## Abstract High temperature in HPLC is considered a valuable tool helping to overcome the increase in the column backpressure when using small packing particles such as subβ2βΞΌm, as it allows reduction in the mobileβphase viscosity. In this study, a fast analytical method based on HPLCβUV was deve
