Precise values I;ave been determined for the binding energies of -Ihe outer electronic bands of the alkali br&ides and iodides using 40.81 cV.ultiavi?let photoelectron spectroscopy. These values have been corrected for relaxation effects and then favounbly. compared with the Born model for ionic solids in terms of both the absolute values of binding energy and the energy tiparation between the outer valence bands.

Reche values have been dclermined for the binding energies of the outer elecuonic bands of Ihe alN.i fluorides using 40.81 eV uluaviolct photoelectron spectroscopy. An approximate difference of 1.1(l) eV belween experimental and Born model binding enclgin is attributed to polarization effects which
CsBr- and CsI-kaolinite intercalation complexes were synthesized by gradually heating caesium halide disks of the DMSO-kaolinite intermediate up to 330 degreesC. Infrared spectroscopy revealed two types of complexes with the caesium salts: almost nonhydrous, obtained during thermal treatment of the
