✦ Synopsis

Treatment of magnesium alkylidene carbenoids, which were generated from 1-chlorovinyl p-tolyl sulfoxides with a Grignard reagent by sulfoxide-magnesium exchange, with lithium a-sulfonyl carbanions gave allenes in moderate to good yields. This procedure offers a novel synthetic method for allenes with three-component coupling in relatively short steps.
