## Abstract The mean annual amplitude and phase of the diurnal and semiβdiurnal waves of barometric pressure at stations in Rhodesia and Nyasaland are given and it is shown that the amplitude of the semiβdiurnal wave, corrected according to Simpson's formula, exhibits a striking uniformity.

## Abstract The diurnal and semiβdiurnal waves of barometric pressure are obtained for individual days. The diurnal wave, with a mean amplitude of from 0Β·6 to 0Β·8 mb., shows a standard departure from the mean of 0Β·25 mb., and, in consequence is sometimes absent. The semiβdiurnal wave, with a mean a
## Abstract The curve of the diurnal pressure variation at βNorthiceβ shows a marked minimum in summer and autumn at about 0430 GMT. Maxima occur at 1300 and 2100 separated by a subsidiary minimum at 1730 GMT. The range is 0Β·3 mb.
The transient response of a free surface to an oscillatory impulsive pressure distribution over a fixed domain is examined. The integral transform representation of the surface displacement is evaluated by the method of stationary phase, and is shown to reduce to the unit impulse result in the appro
