β¦ Synopsis
The model-based approach of Lui, Peterman, Lawrence and Allen (198Sj to the transfusionassociated incubation period of AIDS, and the mechanism of HIV infectivity outlined by Margolick, Bowen, , suggest that a stochastic process may account for the depletion of the T-lymphocytes before AIDS symptoms are detected. This paper considers a simple death process as an example. After estimating the relevant parameters, the fit of this process to the given data proves to be satisfactory.

The tangle model developed by Ernst and Sumners provides a rigorous framework to study processive DNA recombination. We suggest here a slight modification of that model. The tangle equations become: where M is the mechanism tangle, and S is the substrate tangle, that is the sum of O (outside tangle
The main aim of this note is to improve some results obtained in the author's earlier paper (1999, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 236, 350-369). From the improved result follow some useful criteria on the stochastic asymptotic stability and boundedness.
