✦ Synopsis
The title compound, C 14 H 13 N 3 O 2 ÁH 2 O, is a new orthorhombic polymorph of a structure reported previously [Jing, Fan, Yu, Chen & Deng (2005). Acta Cryst. E61, o3208-o3209]. The crystal structure is stabilized by a network of N-HÁ Á ÁO and O-HÁ Á ÁN hydrogen bonds linking three molecules to each water molecule, forming layers in the bc plane.

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C~14~H~13~N~3~O~3~·H~2~O, contains one molecule of __N__′-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidene)isonicotinohydrazide and one solvent water molecule. The crystal packing is stabilized by O—H...N and O—H...O hydrogen bonds.
The bond lengths in the title compound, C 13 H 11 N 3 O 2 ÁH 2 O indicate that the organic molecule exists in the keto form. A network of O-HÁ Á ÁO, O-HÁ Á ÁN and N-HÁ Á ÁO hydrogen bonds helps to consolidate the crystal packing.
In the crystal structure of the title compound, C 14 H 15 N 3 O 4 , the methoxyphenyl ring makes a dihedral angle of 2.27 (6) with the hydrazone group. The crystal packing is stabilized by N-HÁ Á ÁO and O-HÁ Á ÁO hydrogen bonds.
