โฆ Synopsis
An empirical correlation for estimating monthly mean daily total solar radiation on a horizontal surface is suggested from latitude, altitude, sunshine duration, monthly mean dally maximum temperature and relative humidity. The suggested equation is tested for its applicability to southern Africa by estimating the total radiation for four locations in the region. The agreement between the measured and the estimated values is remarkable and the correlation is recommended for use in any location in southern Africa.
