✦ Synopsis
Abstract
Dialkyl iodomethylmalonates in the presence of tetrabutylammonium iodide initiate the polymerization of methyl methacrylate, but not of methyl acrylate or acrylonitrile. Typically, at 60°C in 1,3‐dimethyltetrahydro‐2‐1__H__‐pyrimidone (DMPU) as the solvent, poly(methyl methacrylate (PMMA)) is obtained in the number‐average molecular weight range of 2 000 to 8 000, the molecular weight distribution being fairly narrow (ratio of weight‐ to number‐average molecular weights M̄~w~/M̄~n~ 1.2–1.3).

## Abstract In this work, we propose a modified frontal polymerization method to build a uniform reaction front by gradually immersing the reacting mixture in a thermal bath. This scheme allows uniform materials to be obtained with nearly constant molecular weights and polydispersities and a low re
