✦ Synopsis

2-[S-(N-Acetyl

)cysteine]-isopropylacetanilide sulfoxide was isolated from the excreta of germfree rats given oral doses of 2-chloro-N-isopropylacetanilide. The metabolite was characterized by mass and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry on samples isolated from rats dosed with [l-"C]and [2-'3C]-2-chloro-N-isopropylacetanilide. Artifact formation upon reaction of the sulfoxide with alcoholic HC1 is discussed.
