β¦ Synopsis
A class of volume flowmeter exists in which measurements that are essentially line integrals of the velocity field along a series of parallel chords are combined linearly to form an estimate for the mean velocity. The paper shows how a priori knowledge of the functional forms of the velocity profile may be used in a systematic manner to optimize the design of such an instrument.
