✦ Synopsis

The thermal emission spectrum of the ytterbium monofluoride molecule has been photographed for the first time in the 3600-4600 A ˚region at 2300ЊC, at a reciprocal linear dispersion of 7.3 A ˚/mm. A total of 65 violet degraded bands have been recorded, out of which 55 are new. All these bands have been classified and assigned to the two systems C 2 P-X 2 S / and D 2 S / -X 2 S / of YbF. The C 2 P-X 2 S / system has been classified for the first time. Vibrational constants for the relevant states have been evaluated.

The five (0-0, 0-1, 0-2, 1-0, and 1-1) bands of the B 2 S 0 -X 2 P system of the CH radical have been recorded and analyzed using conventional spectroscopy. The 0-1 and 0-2 bands have been observed for the first time. The spectrum was photographed under high resolution and calibrated against Th line
