✦ Synopsis

A new ultraviolet band system idcntZed ar em&ion from the theoretically predicted but so far unobserved '@ state of NO trapped in an argon matrix is reported. The energy of the u = 0 level is estimated to be 6.57 -c 0 015 or 6.785 * 0.015 eV. The intensity distribution yields an internuclear distance of 1.415 "_ 0.015 A.

The b 4 2-~ a 4 Hi bands of nitric oxide in the photographic infrared have been reinvestigated, using high-resolution emission spectra of very low rotational temperature obtained in a discharge through supersonically expanding mixtures of He and NO. An unambiguous analysis of four bands has been ach
