✦ Synopsis

Li and 23 Na NMR spectra of clay suspensions in water have shown how the smectite structure and the nature of alkali counterions modulate the quadrupolar interaction. These probes, together with 13 C and 2 H nuclei, have been also used to study the interaction of dodecyldimenthylamine oxide with laponite and differently charged saponites dispersed in surfactant solutions.
