As argued in a companion paper , Basden and Hibberd (1996) , there is a need for a more ''proximal'' form of user interface than is currently of fered by traditional WIMP styles of interface . This is necessary for knowledge representation tools used in ill structured domains , in the use of which n

β¦ Synopsis
In order to develop the technology of calculating static and dynamic behavior of a new product during its design period without prototype, an identi"cation method for calculating interface characteristic of mechanical structure system is presented. The paper discusses an optimum algorithm, in which the contact sti!ness coe$cients are taken as design variables, aiming at minimizing the sum of squares of eigenfrequency di!erences between "nite element modes and their corresponding experimental modes, based on mode shape identi"cation. The corresponding software has been developed. Using the identi"ed parameters from an interface sample composed of one base and two columns, the eigenfrequency of mechanical structure system has been calculated and their accuracy has been veri"ed by testing.

## Abstract Good quality metadata are key in supporting user interactions with a repository. Poor quality metadata hide resources, produce poor search results, and negatively affect user satisfaction (Barton et al. 2004; Beall 2005; Geisler et al. 2002). Good quality metadata can be resourceβintens
