A method is presented for determining \(3-N\)-oxalyl2,3-diaminopropanoic acid ( \(\beta\)-ODAP), the most potent neurotoxic substance of the seeds and seedlings of Lathyrus sativus, and its much less toxic 2 -isomer ( \(\alpha\) ODAP). The separation of the two forms is achieved after derivatization
