β¦ Synopsis
The object of this communication is a development of Nell's new theory of simple materials, intended to the formulation of a rational theory for Plasticity. Essentially, the development consists in an appropriate metrization of the configuration space and in a continuity assumption on the evolution function. This leads in a rather natural way to the concept of elastic range. Plastic materials are characterized as materials with elastic range endowed with a supplementary structure ensuring the irreversibility of plastic deformation.
